The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka says the proposed special electricity tariff revision for 2026 is scheduled to be announced today (09).
According to the Commission, the revised cost estimate for electricity generation for the second quarter of this year was recently submitted by National System Operator Pvt Ltd.
The request for a tariff increase has reportedly been based on higher electricity generation costs resulting from rising fuel prices.
The PUCSL also stated that the period allocated for oral submissions and public comments on the proposed revision has now concluded.
However, the Commission emphasized that losses linked to the use of inferior coal will not be included in the electricity tariff calculation.
Earlier, the PUCSL approved a separate electricity tariff revision for the second quarter of 2026 with effect from April 1, under which electricity charges were increased between 8% and 14.4%.
