The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has summoned officials responsible for plantation workers, including representatives from the Ministry of Plantation Industries Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Labour Sri Lanka.
Director General Nimal Punchihewa stated that the Commission received several complaints from civil society organizations representing the Malayagam community and tea estate workers.
According to the complaints, plantation workers are allegedly not receiving the daily wage previously announced by the government.
The Commission is expected to examine the allegations and obtain explanations from the relevant authorities regarding the implementation of wage payments for estate sector employees.
