The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka says the low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka continues to persist according to the latest weather analysis released today.
The Department stated that it is continuously monitoring the system’s behavior, development, and movement.
Due to the influence of the weather system, showers or thundershowers are expected at times in:
- Western Province
- Sabaragamuwa Province
- Central Province
- North-Western Province
- Northern Province
- Galle District
- Matara District
Cloudy skies are also expected over these areas.
According to the Department, fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely in several locations within the affected regions.
Several spells of showers are also expected in Anuradhapura District.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 1:00 p.m.
The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
