May 19, 2026

Parliament of Sri Lanka is scheduled to reconvene today (19), with parliamentary sittings set to continue until May 22, according to the Parliamentary Secretariat of Sri Lanka.

Today’s session, beginning at 9:30 a.m., will focus on the second reading debate of the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill.

On Tuesday (20), Parliament is expected to hold an adjournment debate on the 2025 Economic Review Report issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, on May 21, lawmakers are scheduled to debate three sets of regulations introduced under the Import and Export Control Act.

The Parliamentary Secretariat also stated that condolence motions honoring several deceased former Members of Parliament will be presented on May 22.

Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaweera stated that the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill is intended to simplify Sri Lanka’s tax system.

However, Ajith P. Perera of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya alleged that the proposed amendments could introduce criminal proceedings against individuals who delay tax payments.
