Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya Holds Bilateral Talks With UK Foreign Secretary

Harini Amarasuriya has held a bilateral meeting with Yvette Cooper during her official visit to the United Kingdom.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Nimal Senadheera and officials attached to the Sri Lanka High Commission in the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya is currently in the UK to participate in the Commonwealth of Learning Board of Governors Meeting 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister conveyed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for the United Kingdom’s support following Cyclone Ditwah, including ongoing recovery and rebuilding assistance.

She also acknowledged UK support aimed at facilitating increased bilateral trade and exports for Sri Lanka.

During the discussions, Prime Minister Amarasuriya briefed the UK delegation on:

  • Sri Lanka’s recent economic developments
  • Government policy priorities
  • Efforts related to human rights and reconciliation
  • The country’s current economic growth trajectory

The two sides also exchanged views on:

  • Current global geopolitical developments
  • Energy sector challenges
  • Regional connectivity
  • Long-term energy security

Both parties additionally highlighted the importance of strengthening structured academic mobility frameworks while ensuring fairness, transparency, and integrity within migration systems.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
