Heavy rainfall has caused flooding and transport disruptions in several parts of Sri Lanka, according to authorities.
Sri Lanka Police stated that vehicular movement has been disrupted on the Colombo-Avissawella Road due to flooding in the Puwakpitiya Pahana area.
Meanwhile:
- The Delgoda-Balummahara Road has been flooded in the Udupila area
- Traffic has also been disrupted on the Gampaha-Miriswatta Road due to flooding
- The Divulapitiya-Mirigama Road is underwater in the Ullalapitiya area, obstructing light vehicle movement
The Sri Lanka Railways further stated that train operations on the Puttalam Railway Line have been limited between Nattandiya and Kudawewa due to fallen trees on the tracks.
Minor Flood Warnings Issued
The Department of Irrigation Sri Lanka has issued minor flood warnings for:
- Attanagalu Oya
- Kelani River
- Kalu River
The warnings will remain in effect for the next 24 hours.
Residents in low-lying areas of the following Divisional Secretariat divisions have been advised to remain alert:
- Divulapitiya
- Mirigama
- Attanagalla
- Mahara
- Gampaha
- Minuwangoda
- Ja-Ela
- Katana
- Wattala
People living near the Kelani River in:
- Ruwanwella
- Seethawaka
- Dompe
- Biyagama
- Dehiowita
- Eheliyagoda
- Yatiyantota
- Bulathkohupitiya
have also been urged to remain vigilant.
Additional minor flood warnings have been issued for residents near the riverbanks in:
- Ratnapura
- Kuruwita
- Elapatha
- Ayagama
- Kiriella
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka warned that very heavy rainfall exceeding 200 mm could occur in:
- Western Province
- Sabaragamuwa Province
- North-Western Province
- Galle District
Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution due to possible flooding, landslides, falling trees, and transport disruptions.
