Sri Lanka is approaching the one million mark in foreign tourist arrivals for 2026, according to the latest data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
The SLTDA stated that a total of 990,032 foreign tourists have visited the country so far this year.
According to the latest statistics:
- 113,755 tourists arrived during the first 24 days of May 2026
India continues to remain the largest source market for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector during this period, contributing:
- 46,998 visitors
Other major tourist source markets included:
- United Kingdom — 7,287 visitors
- China — 7,250 visitors
- Germany — 5,782 visitors
For comparison, Sri Lanka recorded a total of 132,919 tourist arrivals during May 2025.
The tourism sector remains one of Sri Lanka’s key foreign exchange earners, with authorities continuing efforts to:

- Strengthen MICE and leisure tourism segments
Industry analysts note that while arrivals continue to grow overall, recent global economic uncertainty and Middle East tensions have affected travel patterns and tourism earnings in recent months.
