The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has issued a special public warning regarding false and misleading information being circulated on social media platforms concerning matters related to the civil aviation sector.
In an official statement, the Authority said that certain information currently being shared online is:
- Completely false
- Misleading
- Unauthorized
The Authority further emphasized that the:
- Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Civil Aviation
has not issued the statements being attributed to him through media organizations or social media platforms.
According to the statement, legal action is already being initiated against individuals and groups responsible for:
- Creating fabricated reports
- Publishing false information
- Disseminating misinformation through social media
The Civil Aviation Authority urged:
- The general public
- Media institutions
- Social media users
to act responsibly when sharing aviation-related information and to verify facts through:
- Official media releases
- Authorized communication channels of the Authority
The Authority also stressed its continued commitment to:
- Protecting public trust
- Safeguarding institutional credibility
- Preserving confidence in government institutions
Officials warned that strict action will continue against those responsible for spreading false information and misinformation relating to the civil aviation sector in Sri Lanka.
