The Extraordinary Gazette notification declaring 15 categories of services as Essential Services has been extended, ensuring the continued operation of key sectors considered vital for the country’s daily functioning and economic recovery.
According to the notification, the designated services are required to operate without interruption to maintain public services and national operations.
The categories identified as Essential Services include:
- Electricity and fuel services
- Health services and ambulance operations
- Water supply services
- Food-related services
- Irrigation services
- Public transport and road services
- District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats
- Field officers attached to public administration services
- Central Bank of Sri Lanka services
- State banking and insurance services
- Telecommunications, telephone and media services
- Lowland reclamation services
- Agriculture and agricultural insurance services
The extension means these sectors will continue to be treated as critical services required to support public welfare, economic activity, and national administration.
