Showers or thundershowers are expected at times today (31) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The Department stated that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may also occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph are also expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and across the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.
The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
