June 7, 2026

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times today (07) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The Department stated that heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely at certain locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.

A few showers may also occur in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile, strong winds with speeds of around 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Fairly strong winds of approximately 30–40 kmph are expected across other parts of the island.

The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall associated with thundershowers.

Residents in vulnerable areas have also been advised to remain alert for possible weather-related disruptions and localized flooding.
