Showers and Strong Winds Expected Across Several Parts of Sri Lanka Today

June 10, 2026

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times today (10) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The Department also forecasts a few showers in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile, strong winds with speeds of around 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and the districts of Hambantota and Trincomalee.

Fairly strong winds of approximately 30–40 kmph are also likely to affect other parts of the island.

The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and other weather-related hazards associated with thundershowers.

Residents, particularly those in vulnerable areas, are advised to remain vigilant and stay updated on weather forecasts and advisories issued by authorities.
