July 12, 2026

Several spells of showers are expected today (12) in the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The Department said a few showers may also occur in the Western and North Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly dry weather is expected to prevail across the rest of the island.

Strong winds of 40–50 km/h are also forecast at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the North Central Province, and the Monaragala, Puttalam, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts.

The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
