The National Dengue Control Unit says the total number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka this year has reached nearly 70,000.
According to the latest data, 69,951 dengue cases had been reported across the country as of yesterday (13), with infections continuing to increase.
The Unit said the total number of cases stood at 68,672 on July 12, meaning 1,279 new dengue infections were reported on July 13 alone.
The Western Province continues to record the highest number of cases, accounting for 33,127 infections reported so far this year.
Within the province, the Gampaha District has reported the highest number of cases at 14,464, followed by the Colombo District with 14,004 cases.
Meanwhile, 14,572 dengue cases have been reported during the first 13 days of July alone.
The highest monthly total recorded this year remains June, when 21,538 dengue cases were reported.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain clean surroundings and seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as fever.
