The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage has introduced a new tourist experience titled “Walk with an Elephant,” offering visitors the opportunity to closely observe elephant behaviour while learning more about wildlife conservation.
According to the Department of National Zoological Gardens, the programme allows participants to safely walk alongside an elephant living at the orphanage in a controlled environment.
The initiative aims to give both local and foreign tourists a deeper appreciation of Sri Lanka’s rich wildlife heritage while creating memorable and educational experiences.
The department said the programme has been designed to help visitors better understand the natural behaviour of elephants and to raise public awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.
Special tickets for the experience are available at the main ticket counter of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. The programme operates daily from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Department of National Zoological Gardens has invited both local and international visitors to take part in this unique wildlife experience, which supports conservation efforts while promoting environmental education.
