Veteran Sri Lankan actor Mahendra Perera has won the Best Actor award at the Malaysia International Film Festival for his performance in the film Riverstone, earning another major international accolade for Sri Lankan cinema.
The award marks the second time Perera has received international recognition for his acting, having previously won the Best Actor award at the Singapore International Film Festival.
Perera was selected from a highly competitive field of nominees, which included Yurai Loy (Broken Voices), Chang Chen (Lucky Lu), Randika Gunathilaka (Riverstone), and Nicholas Sarathe (The Red Hangar).
Sri Lanka’s success at the festival was further highlighted by veteran actor Priyantha Sirikumara, who won the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in Riverstone.
The double victory marks another significant achievement for Sri Lankan cinema on the international stage.
