The Government has launched a programme to establish a network of day care and therapy centres across Sri Lanka for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
The initiative, launched on the instructions of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, will be implemented under the supervision of the Presidential Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministries of Health, Education and Social Services.
During a special discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake instructed officials to prepare and submit a comprehensive concept proposal for the project within two weeks.
A sum of Rs. 250 million has been allocated through the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs to implement the programme, with funds to be distributed through District Secretariats.
The project aims to strengthen specialised human resource development, establish a scientifically validated care model, and introduce clear operational guidelines for service delivery.
A multidisciplinary team comprising healthcare professionals, educators and social service officers is expected to provide comprehensive support to children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as their families.
