The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) says it has purchased 7,267 metric tonnes of paddy within the first two weeks of the government’s paddy purchasing programme.
Paddy is currently being purchased through 71 collection centres operating in Mullaitivu, Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Hambantota, Kurunegala, Matale, Monaragala, Vavuniya, Ratnapura, Trincomalee and Kilinochchi.
PMB Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda said the procurement programme is progressing steadily through these centres.
Under the government’s guaranteed purchasing scheme, Nadu paddy is being purchased at Rs. 120 per kilogram, Samba at Rs. 130 per kilogram and Keeri Samba at Rs. 140 per kilogram.
