Sri Lanka has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-improving countries in investor relations and debt transparency, according to the latest Investor Relations and Debt Transparency Report 2026 published by the Institute of International Finance (IIF).
The IIF ranked Sri Lanka fourth among the countries recording the largest improvements in investor relations practices, behind Vietnam, Belize and Mozambique.
Sri Lanka’s overall Investor Relations Country Score increased to 43.67 out of 50 in 2026, up from 37.33 in 2025, placing the country in the top quartile among the 57 emerging markets and developing economies assessed in the report.
The report also highlighted Sri Lanka as one of the strongest performers in improving debt transparency, with the country ranking as the fifth-highest improver in this category.
According to the IIF, the progress reflects enhanced disclosure of public debt information, stronger investor engagement mechanisms and greater transparency in public financial management.
Sri Lanka also recorded notable improvements in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data and policy disclosure, strengthening its ability to provide investors with information beyond traditional financial indicators.
The IIF noted that the largest year-on-year gains in ESG transparency were recorded by Thailand, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Belize, Sri Lanka and Nigeria, while countries including Cameroon, Argentina, Malaysia and Azerbaijan experienced declines.
The latest assessment comes as Sri Lanka continues efforts to restore international investor confidence following its sovereign debt crisis.
According to the IIF, improvements in transparency, investor communication and debt management have strengthened Sri Lanka’s international financial standing and support the country’s ongoing economic recovery and efforts to rebuild long-term credibility in global financial markets.
