Police Scotland has confirmed that several athletes who participated in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have been reported missing after failing to return home with their respective national teams.
According to media reports, the missing athletes include four Ugandan boxers—Nuhu Batte, Angel Katushabe, Ibrahim Kemis and Emily Nkalema—as well as Pakistani boxer Qudratullah.
Reports from Ugandan media indicate that the athletes did not travel back with their delegation following the conclusion of the Games.
One of the missing Ugandan athletes reportedly told NBS Sport that he intends to remain in Scotland and seek political asylum in pursuit of better training opportunities and future prospects.
This is not the first such incident at the Commonwealth Games. During the 2014 Glasgow Games, several athletes, including two Ugandan rugby players, also went missing. More recently, Cameroonian weightlifter Cyril Chatche sought political asylum after winning a silver medal at the 2026 Games.
Police Scotland and the UK Home Office have launched a joint investigation into the disappearances.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games, held in Glasgow in a scaled-down format following the withdrawal of the Australian state of Victoria as host, concluded on Sunday.
