Russian Drone Hits Passenger Train Shortly After Diplomatic Train Departs

September 15, 2026

A Russian drone struck a passenger train at Yahodyn railway station near the Poland-Ukraine border shortly after a special diplomatic train carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and several senior foreign officials had left the station.

The delegation had been traveling toward Poland after holding discussions in Kyiv. Due to security concerns, the schedule was changed and the diplomatic train departed earlier than planned.

The drone reportedly crashed into the passenger train that was following the diplomatic train almost immediately after the latter had left the station.

No casualties were reported, as passengers had been evacuated from the affected train before the drone struck.

Ukrainian Railways said the diplomatic train carrying Johnson may have been the intended target of the attack. The delegation also included former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s senior adviser Günther Sautter and British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell.

Johnson described the incident as random and senseless, saying that Ukrainians face similar dangers every day.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt drone attacks targeting Russian diesel refineries, warning that such strikes could contribute to fuel shortages in global markets.
