The Meteorology Department says showery weather in the south-western parts of the island is expected to increase over the next few days, starting today (19).
Showers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is possible in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Showers or thundershowers are also expected in several areas of the Uva and Northern provinces, as well as in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts, after 2.00 p.m.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimise possible damage from temporary, localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
