Sri Lanka spent US$4,072.1 million on fuel imports during the first eight months of 2026, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
This represents a 61.6% increase compared with the US$2,520.6 million spent on fuel imports during the same period in 2025.
In August 2026 alone, fuel import expenditure increased by 76.5% compared with August 2025, reaching US$450.6 million.
