The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory warning of severe lightning across several provinces and districts.
The advisory, issued at 11.30 a.m. today (18), will remain in effect until 1.00 a.m. tomorrow (19).
According to the Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely at several locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central, Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as the Kurunegala, Jaffna, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts.
Temporary localised strong winds may also occur during thundershowers, the Department added.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by lightning.
