The National Dengue Control Unit has urged the public to take immediate action to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites amid continued rainy weather and an increased risk of dengue transmission.
Acting Director Dr. Kapila Kannangara warned that ineffective dengue prevention and control measures could lead to a resurgence of outbreaks in the near future. He noted that dengue cases have historically increased during rainy seasons.
He said dengue mosquito larval surveys are currently being conducted across all districts and stressed that public cooperation is essential to maintaining existing dengue control efforts.
Dr. Kannangara also credited public cooperation during the Southwest Monsoon season with helping control the high-risk and epidemic conditions that emerged during that period.
He urged the public to work together to prevent a recurrence of such conditions by taking immediate steps to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
People are advised to inspect their homes and surrounding premises for places where water can collect, clean such areas and ensure that water does not stagnate.
