Heavy Showers Expected Across Most Parts of Sri Lanka Today

October 19, 2026

Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today (19), the Department of Meteorology said.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces, as well as in the Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee and Mullaitivu districts.

Showers may also occur in coastal areas of the Western and Northern provinces and in the Galle district during the morning, the department added.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions against temporary, localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers to minimise possible damage.

Misty conditions are also expected at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours.
