Hindus worldwide are commemorating Maha Shivaratri today (08), an annual Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva.
Maha Shivaratri, also known as ‘The Night of Shiva,’ is celebrated with profound devotion and religious fervor, paying homage to Lord Shiva, one of the deities in the Hindu Trinity.
The festival falls on the moonless 14th night of the new moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna.
Devotees observe a day and night fast during the celebration of Shivaratri, engaging in ritual worship of the Shiva Lingam to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
Shivaratri is particularly celebrated during the night through a “jaagaran,” a night-long vigil. This observance is rooted in the belief that Lord Shiva saved the universe from darkness and ignorance.
Moreover, this auspicious day is believed to mark the union of Lord Shiva with the Goddess Parvati in marriage.
