A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the eastern shore of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines on Saturday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), GFZ reported. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the magnitude at 6.8.
The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center stated that there is no tsunami threat from the earthquake.
The Philippine seismology agency PHIVOLCS issued an advisory indicating that no damage is expected from the offshore quake but warned of potential aftershocks.
The Philippines lies within the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a region known for frequent volcanic activity and earthquakes.
