The Meteorology Department reports that an easterly wave-type disturbance will impact weather conditions across the island in the coming days.
Under this influence, increased rainfall is anticipated in the Northern and Eastern provinces starting December 10. Additionally, the Northeast Monsoon is expected to gradually establish itself over the island during this period.
The department forecasts several spells of rain in the Northern and Eastern provinces. Showers or thundershowers are also likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Nuwara-Eliya and Kandy districts, mainly during the evening or night. Elsewhere, mainly fair weather will prevail.
Misty conditions are expected in many areas during the morning hours.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
