The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has called on farmers to report crop damage caused by recent adverse weather by December 10.
Chairman Pemasiri Jasingarachchi stated that officials would assess the affected lands, with initial estimates suggesting that 25% of flooded cultivated areas have been damaged.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunaratne, announced that farmers whose lands have been completely damaged will receive compensation of Rs. 100,000 per hectare.
Meanwhile, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has pledged to support the restoration of damaged cultivations. This commitment was made during a recent meeting with Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, K.D. Lalkantha.
