Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya has instructed all police stations to launch special traffic operations across all police divisions starting January 2nd, with the aim of improving traffic control and ensuring road safety. The operations will continue until further notice and form a part of the broader “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, aligned with the new government’s policy, “A Thriving Nation – A Beautiful Life.”
The directive prioritizes action against vehicles with illegal modifications, such as loud horns, silencers, additional flashing lights, and other unauthorized alterations that may contribute to accidents or road hazards.
Under the initiative, each police division is mandated to conduct two traffic operations daily, each lasting three hours. These efforts aim to curb road rule violations and create safer driving conditions across the country.
The Acting IGP has also emphasized the importance of treating passengers courteously during public transport inspections to minimize inconvenience.
This proactive approach reflects a commitment to enhancing public safety while maintaining respect for citizens’ rights.
