Acting IGP Warns of Disciplinary Action Against Officers Rejecting Complaints

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya has warned that disciplinary action will be taken against police officers and station heads who refuse to accept complaints from the public.

In a recently issued circular, the Acting IGP stated that in addition to disciplinary measures, legal action could also be pursued against such officers under the Police Ordinance.

Weerasooriya noted that he has received multiple written and verbal complaints alleging that certain officers have refused to accept complaints, citing various reasons.

The circular emphasizes that it is the duty and responsibility of police officers to record and investigate all complaints reported to police stations.
