Afternoon Showers Forecast for Multiple Provinces Today, Says Met Department

Showers or thundershowers are expected in several parts of the country after 1:00 p.m. today, particularly in the North-Central, Uva, Eastern, Central, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the districts of Kurunegala, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Hambantota, the Department of Meteorology announced.

Fairly heavy rainfall of up to 75 mm is likely in some of these areas.

Additionally, a few showers may occur in the Western Province and in the districts of Galle, Matara, and Puttalam.

Light showers are also expected in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle. Winds in these areas will be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds ranging between 30–40 km/h. Gusts may reach 50–55 km/h at times in the sea areas from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle.

The Met Department warns that these coastal sea areas may be rough at times, with wave heights increasing to between 2.5 and 3.0 metres, especially from Colombo to Matara via Galle.
