The Election Commission (EC) has forwarded reports to the Attorney General’s Department regarding five candidates who failed to submit their income and expenditure reports for the 2024 Presidential Election.
The EC said the reports were sent to obtain the Attorney General’s guidance on possible legal action, in line with the provisions of the Election Expenditure Regulation Act No. 3 of 2023, which makes it mandatory for all candidates to file detailed income and expenditure statements.
In addition, the Commission has directed the police to take action against 13 other individuals who also failed to comply with the requirement.
The EC further stated that statements from the relevant candidates have already been recorded and the matter has been referred to court.
