September 28, 2026

Marking a new development in Sri Lanka’s television media landscape, Ahasa TV is set to commence its inaugural broadcast in the near future.

The announcement was made today (28) at a special media briefing held following the unveiling of the new channel’s brand.

According to the channel’s management, Ahasa TV aims to provide Sri Lankan audiences with quality media that goes beyond traditional boundaries.

The channel said its vision is to become a trusted source of information based on impartiality, truth, accuracy, and transparency, while also serving as a voice for the conscience of its audience.

Ahasa TV plans to introduce a range of creative and high-quality programmes combining modern technology with Sri Lanka’s cultural identity and ethical values.

Under the theme “Api Hadawathinma Sathutin” (We are truly happy from the heart), the channel aims to create a media experience that is both entertaining and meaningful, bringing its management, staff, and viewers together as one community.

Ahasa TV is owned by Business Media International Group, the publisher of the Rathu Ira newspaper and ELEVARE magazine, with Sabitha Hettiarachchi serving as Chairperson.

The brand launch media briefing was attended by AVG Group Chairman Nilanga Karunaratne, CEO Ajith Ranasinghe, COO Engineer Nilupa Ranaweera, Chief Content Officer and Channel Head Dr. Senesh Dissanayake Bandara, Chief Revenue Officer Kisho Vithanachchi, Head of News and Current Affairs Upendra Herath, and Head of Programmes Viraj Malinga Gamage.

The channel also plans to adopt emerging global media trends by moving beyond the traditional concept of a passive television viewer and providing a more interactive experience that encourages audience participation.

A key focus of Ahasa TV will be creating an international-standard platform for the ideas, creativity, and talents of Sri Lanka’s Gen Z generation.

The channel’s management said it expects its innovative programming to contribute to Sri Lanka’s economic, social, and cultural development.

Through what it describes as sustainable and responsible media practices, Ahasa TV aims to provide an engaging media experience for audiences across all generations.
