The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for severe lightning, warning of thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning in several parts of the country.
According to the advisory, affected areas include the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Northern, and North-Central provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Monaragala, and Matale districts. Temporary localized strong winds are also expected during thundershowers.
The public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize lightning-related risks, including:

Seeking shelter indoors and avoiding trees, open fields, and water bodies.

Refraining from using wired telephones and electrical appliances.

Avoiding open vehicles such as bicycles, tractors, and boats.

Being cautious of fallen trees and power lines.
