The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The affected sea areas are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph.
Wave heights may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
The Department has advised naval and fishing communities operating in the affected areas to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
