The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ level advisory for heavy rainfall in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the districts of Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Kandy. The advisory is valid for the next 24 hours.

According to the department, the ongoing active southwest monsoon is expected to sustain the prevailing rainy conditions across the southwestern region of the island.

Rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas within the affected provinces and districts, prompting authorities to urge the public to remain vigilant.
