The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory warning of severe lightning in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
The advisory, issued at 12.00 noon today (12), will remain in effect until 11.00 p.m.
According to the Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected to occur in several areas within these provinces and districts after 2.00 p.m.
The Department further noted that temporary localized strong winds may also occur during these thundershowers.
The general public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage and risks caused by lightning activity.
