Arrest Warrant Against Hirunika Premachandra Recalled by Colombo Magistrate’s Court

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has recalled the arrest warrant issued against former MP Hirunika Premachandra today (10), after she appeared before the court through a motion.

Earlier in the day, the Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali issued an arrest warrant against Premachandra and several others for failing to appear in a case related to a 2022 protest that blocked roads in the Cinnamon Gardens Police Division.

While 11 suspects were present, Premachandra and a few others did not appear, prompting the court to issue the warrant. The Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the court that they were seeking instructions from the Attorney General regarding the case.

The magistrate has now ordered a progress report on the matter to be submitted by June 30, 2025.

However, according to an Ada Derana reporter, Premachandra was later seen on the court premises after the trial had ended.
