The National Youth Services Council (NYSC) incurred an expenditure exceeding LKR 320 million on the “Smart Youth Night” music concert series, as uncovered by an internal audit.
Concert Series Across Multiple Locations
The concert series, aimed at engaging the youth, was held at numerous venues across Sri Lanka, including the Maharagama National Youth Services Centre, Colombo Race Course, Khettarama Stadium, and cities such as Galle, Jaffna, and Bandarawela.
Ministerial Oversight
During the period of these events, the NYSC was under the purview of Harin Fernando, the then Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Audit Findings Submitted for Action
The audit report, containing detailed findings and recommendations, has been submitted to the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Investigation Launched
Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Eranga Gunasekara, has ordered a formal investigation into the expenditures revealed by the audit. The inquiry aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the council’s financial operations.
