Starting today, passengers can purchase bus tickets using bank cards, marking a significant step in modernizing the country’s public transport system.
The inauguration of the new payment facility will take place this morning at the Makumbura Multimedia Transport Center.
The initiative is a joint effort by the Ministry of Digital Technology and the Ministry of Transport and will be officially launched under the patronage of Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development, Bimal Ratnayake.
The new system aims to reduce cash transactions, making ticket purchases more convenient and efficient for daily commuters.
Officials have stated that, as part of the government’s broader digitalization strategy, the system will gradually be rolled out across selected bus routes.
