The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced that it will conduct special inspections at rice mills in the Polonnaruwa area today (December 8).
A spokesperson stated that the inspections will focus on gathering detailed reports regarding daily rice production, current stock levels, and the quantities of rice released to the market.
Following the directives of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the CAA revealed plans to extend these inspections to all rice mills nationwide in the future to ensure transparency and compliance.
During a meeting with rice traders yesterday (December 7), President Dissanayake introduced new maximum retail and wholesale price limits for various types of rice.
Starting today, CAA officers will be deployed to monitor rice mills closely and enforce strict legal action against any mill owners who fail to adhere to the newly fixed prices.
