CAA to Crack Down on Rice Sellers Violating Price Controls

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced that it will begin conducting raids to take legal action against traders selling rice above the government-imposed maximum retail prices.

The CAA emphasized that a controlled price for rice has been officially established through a gazette notification. Therefore, selling rice at rates exceeding the fixed prices is a violation of the law.

The Authority stated that raids will be launched to identify such violators, and consumers are encouraged to report any incidents of overpricing. Complaints can be lodged by contacting the CAA via the 1977 hotline during office hours.

The government-mandated maximum retail prices for rice are as follows:

  • Rs. 220 per kg – White and Red Local Raw Rice

  • Rs. 230 per kg – White and Red Nadu Rice

  • Rs. 240 per kg – White and Red Samba Raw Rice

  • Rs. 260 per kg – Keeri Samba Raw Rice

The CAA urged both traders and consumers to comply with these regulations to ensure fairness in the market.
