Cabinet Approves Introduction of Digital Driver’s Licences in Sri Lanka

The Cabinet has approved a proposal to introduce digital driver’s licences, replacing the existing system that has been in use for nearly 15 years.

Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa announced the decision, stating that the new system will align with modern technology and enhance data exchange between institutions.

Until the digital licences are introduced, the current smart card-based system will remain operational. Minister Jayatissa emphasized that the initiative reflects global trends in driving licence management.
