The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal by the Minister of Women and Child Affairs to allocate Rs. 25 million in 2025 for the administration of temporary care homes that provide shelter and protection to female victims of violence.

- Existing Care Homes:
- The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs operates 10 care home centres across the country:
- Locations: Gampaha, Ratnapura, Moneragala, Colombo, Matara, Batticaloa, Mullaitivu, and Jaffna districts, with two centres in Anuradhapura.
- A new care home is planned for the Nuwara-Eliya district starting in January 2025.
- The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs operates 10 care home centres across the country:
- Funding and Expenses:
- From 2020 to the second quarter of 2024, care homes supported 2,852 women, incurring expenses of Rs. 60.35 million.
- The Ministry received only Rs. 37.69 million in provisions, leaving Rs. 22 million in unsettled bills.
- Support from Welfare Organizations:
- While some administrative and maintenance costs are borne by the Ministry, other expenses are covered by women’s welfare-oriented organizations.
- Future Allocations:
- The Cabinet has approved the Rs. 25 million allocation for 2025.
- It has also been decided to ensure necessary provisions are included in the annual budgets for subsequent years.
