The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the importation of Keeri Samba into Sri Lanka, as announced by a Senior Minister. This decision comes in response to the prevailing shortage of Keeri Samba within the country.
To regulate the market and ensure affordability, the Maximum Retail Price for a kilogram of Keeri Samba has been set at Rs. 260.
Simultaneously, the Cabinet has made a consequential decision to take control of sugar stocks presently held by the private sector. The government will oversee the sale of these sugar stocks directly to consumers through Sathosa, a move aimed at stabilizing the market and providing a reliable supply of sugar to the public.
