A 37-year-old Canadian woman was arrested early this morning (22) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake after arriving in Sri Lanka on a flight from Canada via Doha.
During a baggage inspection, customs officials discovered 18.1 kilograms of hashish concealed in her luggage. According to Customs, the seized narcotics are estimated to have a street value of approximately Rs. 181 million.
Customs spokesperson and Additional Director General, Seevali Arukgoda, stated that preliminary investigations are currently underway.
The suspect, along with the confiscated narcotics, is to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigation.
