‘Caution’ Level Heat Advisory Issued Across Several Regions

March 30, 2026

The Department of Meteorology has announced that the heat index — the temperature felt on the human body — will remain at a “caution” level across many parts of the island today.

According to the advisory, elevated heat conditions are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, North-Western, Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Monaragala District.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during this period.

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, advised the public to drink water regularly to avoid dehydration. He also recommended wearing head coverings and sunglasses when outdoors.

Health officials further emphasized that children and the elderly should not be left in direct sunlight for long periods.

In case of symptoms such as dizziness or fainting, individuals are advised to move to a cool or shaded area immediately and seek medical attention if the condition persists.
