CEB Reports Rise in Wild Elephant Deaths Due to Illegal Electrical Fences

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has reported that approximately 50 wild elephants have died in 2024 from electrocution caused by unauthorized electrical fences and illegal tapping into power lines.

In a statement, the CEB confirmed that necessary legal actions have already been initiated against individuals responsible for these unlawful activities.

The CEB is also calling for public support to safeguard wild elephants. It urges citizens to report any incidents of illegal power tapping or unauthorized electrical fences.

To report such activities, the CEB advises contacting them immediately at 0112118767 or via the emergency hotline 1987.
